Clive City Council members this week adopted an ordinance allowing wind turbines on residential and commercial properties.
The ordinance, unanimously approved by the council Thursday, replaces a moratorium passed last August that prohibited wind energy systems.
Most residential properties will be permitted one wind generator system; commercially zoned land will be allowed two, according to an amendment proposed by Councilwoman Jennifer Easler. Easler had previously voted down the ordinance twice, stating she did not agree with modifications made from the Metro Advisory Council model ordinance.
Clive officials slightly changed the model ordinance, including lowering the maximum height of tower-mounted turbines to 60 feet tall and limiting one turbine per property.
Though Easler said she thinks "ordinarily, baby steps is a good approach," she has said she found the changes restrictive.
