China is planning to spend$4.4 trillion on expanding renewable energy use , state media said ,as it seeks to rely more on cleaner ways to power its growth . The investment will be partly focused on wind power . The government has canvassed local economic planning agencies and relevant companies about a draft plan .China aims to boost renewable energy from 1.5 to 6 percent of its energy use by 2020 . China announced measures to support autos, petrochemicals and eight other sectors as part of a four trillion yuan package unveiled in November . Uner the plan , China's wind power generator capacitywill reach more than 100 gigawatts by 2020 , more than triple a gola of 30 gigawatts announced in 2001 in a renewable energy development plan . The world wind energy association says CHina's wind energy capacity has doubled every year since the law was put in place ,to 12 gigawatts . Wind is the fastest growing renewable energy in China , with 60 percent more capacity since 2005 . One of the world's largest greenhouse gas emitters alongside the United States , CHina depends on coal for nearly 70 percent of its energy consumption . It aims to cut energy consumption per unit of gross domestic product by 20 percent and pollution by 10 percent from 2005 level by 2010 . The roots of China's push for renewable energy are in a 2005 law that gives incentives such as fixed rate tariffs and carbon credits to renewable energy companies . The law also makes clear that provinces are expected to meet new clean energy guidelines . China's government says it will has 100 gigawatts of wind-power generators capacity by 2020 enough to powr more than 60 million homes . That gigure is more than three times the target the government laid out just 18 months ago .
